Stop the Show O course we knew that "Buzz" Ker- ner, Tom Butler and our own student body president would sec to it that they wouldn't miss anything, but we never guessed that they would stop a show, and a Broadway musical comedy at that. But according to Father Lonergan, that's just what they did. We quote from his letter;— "Once more Giannini was host. The fellows had four boxes. The show was a Broadway musical comedy, 'reputable' as the shows along Broadway go, and the boys all said they enjoyed it. Of course the management knew who had the boxes, and Eddie Dowling, the star, didn't let the opportunity for a little publicity slip by. At the end of the first act he came out and told the audience that the boxes were occupied by a bunch of wild and woolies, etc., and he singled out the Indian lad from Gonzaga as 'one of the real Indians in the Northwest with royal blood in his veins, etc' The boys got a hand from the house." Dan Murphy Carothers and Murphy were honored at what John Rudden, football im- presaric and toastmaster of the annual football banquet, called a "gastrom- omic carnival", held at the Commercial Club on top of the Merchants' Exchange building. The entire college was honored by admittance to the smaller college loop at the St. Francis Hotel. The varsity men retired from the banquet room to elect the 1927 captain and to the non-voting diners it seemed that primaries were being held over the name of every member of the squad. When the electors returned it was announced that Tom "Soup" had been the unanimous choice of the football people. Tom responded with a short speech, but he didn't utter sweet nothings.
