DANIELLE MAINGOT/FOGHORN IN WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW TANYA DZEKON StaffWriter USF's 111-year-old student newspaper has a new look this semester. The San Francisco Foghorn will be published in tabloid format this academic year, with more color, and a completely updated design. Last year, the Foghorn was an eight-page broadsheet newspaper, and today it is 12 pages and magazine sized. The redesign efforts were led by the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) at USF and the Foghorn's own layout editor, Pay- ton O'Neal. Monica Totres and Catherine Bagg, USF students and design interns at OCM, were asked to create a design template for the publication, so it could remain a student-run effort. Dale Johnston (USF's creative director), Anne Hoglund (senior graphic designer), and Mario Sosa (graphic designer), provided professional guidance to the design students. "Our intent was to create a fresh new look while still keeping with the Foghorn's history. We hope the new design brings forth more creativity, interest, and readership," said Torres. "Redesigning the Foghorn was a great learning experience for both Cat and myself, not just with the technical aspects of designing a newspapet, but also working collaboratively as a pair and with the Foghorn staff." ♦ If you have any comments or suggestions ing the redesign please contact editorinchief@ sffoghorn.info.
