The only office which had enough candidates to warrant a primary was that of President. (See below for vote totals.) There was some question as to the legality of the election, however, as the Board of Student Coordination (BSC, the arm of ASUSF which runs elections), had permited W.E.C. (World English Center) students to vote in the election. The problem arises because it has been traditional in most elections not to permit WEC students to vote. The main reason for this tradition is that the W.E.C. students have not usually been charged the $20.00 ASUSF activity fee in the past. The section of the Constitution of ASUSF which the BSC refers to in this case is Article I, section 2, which states: "All undergraduate students in the day division ofthe University of San Francisco shall pay a student Continued on back Herman Petzoid Pat McNicholas Michael Carreno Majio Salim lag! 409 230 204 60 902 Vote% 45% 25% 22% 8% AFL-CIO Affiliation Researched by J. J. Thompson Staff Reporter As reported in last week's issue of the Foghorn, the USF Faculty Association has proposed an affiliation with the California Federation of Teachers. At press time the Association had not voted on the matter; but a Faculty member, who wishes to remain anonymous, feels confident that the Association will affiliate. The Foghorn has further investigated the affiliation and its consequences. Informed sources have revealed to the Foghorn that the matter of affiliation with the AFL-CIO has been under consideration since February of this year, when the Association's Policy Board directed the Executive .Board to make a recommendation concerning affiliation. The Executive Board, in light of present admin- istration action, unanimously decided that the faculty union should affiliate itself only with a national organization that offered the type of "protection" they desired. Furthermore, the Policy Board held a meeting in March with CFT President Raoul Telihet. who impressed the Board with the terms of affiliation. Telihet, in a letter of 7 April to Association President Michael Lehmann. laid out the terms of affiliation. The CFT will not charge the Association any membership fees for the first six months ofthe affiliation, and only half fees for the following eighteen months, according to this letter. As the Association members presently pay sufficient dues to cover the affiliation, it will not increase cost to the individual members in the foreseeable future.
